Since 1994, the firm has acquired assets totaling more than 14 million square feet, starting with 200 Madison Avenue in 1994.

COMPANY EVOLUTION

An engineer by degree, George Comfort founded the firm in 1919 as a small building management firm. His talent for and belief in sound building maintenance attracted many owners who profited from having such a committed professional operate their buildings. After World War II, his son George V. Comfort expanded the firm's scope by forming creative partnerships for real estate investment.

The business prospered, and the list of Institutional and Private Clients expanded, because they valued the integrity and competence of a firm that had thrived through many economic cycles. Shortly after his retirement, George V. Comfort passed away in early 2000 at age 86. His lasting legacy included partnerships with Harry Helmsley, Larry Wien, Clifford Michel, Stanley Stahl, John Loeb, Joseph Cullman III, and David Baldwin.

Peter S. Duncan joined the firm in 1982 and became President in 1995. Under his leadership, George Comfort & Sons has added 14 million square feet to its management portfolio, expanded investment and operations around the country, and forged new partnerships with top global investors.
